The CPA Education Foundation has agreed to support a Teaching Award to be presented annually to a member of the Accounting Area.

To be eligible for this award, the individual must have contributed significantly to teaching and learning development of Accounting students through such initiatives as innovative instruction, curriculum development, and service to the students. Nominators are required to outline the candidate’s contribution to teaching excellence, innovative classroom learning, and genuine concern for student improvement.

The recipient of the award will be determined by a committee consisting of the President of the Accounting Students Association (ASA), the Accounting Area Chair (or an Area member nominated by the Area Chair – e.g. the previous year’s award winner), the Associate dean (Undergraduate Programs), and a person to be nominated by the CPA Education Foundation. The Committee will base their decision on nominations from undergraduate students currently taking accounting courses.

The award will be open to all Accounting faculties, with the exception of any member who has received the award in the last two years. The award winner will be determined each year at the end of the Winter term giving students an opportunity to evaluate their instructors for the Fall and Winter terms and make an appropriate nomination.

The award is the form of a personal plaque and an honorarium of $3000. The award will be announced at a Haskayne School of Business Council meeting and the recipient may be honoured at appropriate CPA Education Foundation or Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta functions.

The ASA will take responsibility for soliciting nominations for the award during the academic year and will make presentations to Accounting classes at the end of the Fall and Winter semesters. Nomination forms will be available from the ASA office and at the time of the classroom presentations.
